CoreTek®

Antimold for Wallboard Paper

WHAT IS CORETEK®?

CoreTek is a proprietary blend of cationic quaternary ammonium compounds. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval and registration for addition to wallboard gypsum core to prevent mold growth is pending. The blend of molecules comprising CoreTek work together synergistically to prevent mold growth by destructive interaction with membranes of the organism. The chemistry is temperature stable with no degradation during normal wallboard manufacturing processes.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF CORETEK®

  • Premium antimold for wallboard gypsum core (patent pending).
  • Highly concentrated liquid.
  • Readily diluted with water to facilitate addition to gypsum slurry during wallboard manufacture.
  • Perfect score of 10 on ASTM D-3273*.
  • Stable and can be stored under a wide set of physical conditions.
  • Environmentally friendly, CoreTek is biodegradable in landfill.
  • Safe to use.
  • Cost effective...cost competitive.

    HOW DOES CORETEK® WORK?
  • CoreTek is added as a water based solution to the gypsum slurry at the point of wallboard manufacture:
    • CoreTek is trapped in the crystalline lattice structure of the gypsum core when the gypsum sets up.
    • CoreTek does not interfere in crystallization of the gypsum.
    • CoreTek does not change the integral relationship between the gypsum core and the paper that together comprise a wallboard.
    • CoreTek is concentrated as water is removed during the wallboard making process.
  • CoreTek Stops mold growth:
    • Starch and sugars added to the gypsum are nutritional sources for mold.
    • CoreTek is distributed throughout the core.
    • Close interaction between mold membrane and CoreTek at exposed surfaces is cidal for the mold.
    • CoreTek molecules penetrate mold membranes resulting in destruction of the integrity of the mold – mold cells die.
    • Mold resistance does not dissipate over time.

*ASTM D-3273 is a standard testing method.

When tested, as manufactured, in accordance with ASTM D-3273, CoreTek scored a 10 which is the highest level of performance for mold resistance under the ASTM D-3273 test method. The score of 10, in the ASTM D-3273 test, indicates no mold growth, in a 4-week controlled laboratory test. The mold resistance of any building product when used in actual job site conditions may not produce the same results as were achieved in the controlled, laboratory setting.
